We are the Archives of the Jewish community of Ontario. Founded in 1973, the Archives has been actively collecting and preserving material recording the history of the Jews in this province.
Collections
The wide variety of material preserved in the Archives includes manuscripts and printed material (minutes, correspondence, publications, financial and cemetery records of Jewish organizations; personal papers, diaries, invitations, posters, newspapers), pictorial material (photographs, films, architectural drawings), sound and video recordings of interviews and important events and selected artifacts (badges, trophies, memorabilia). Contemporary items are collected as well, in recognition of their future historical importance.
Oral History
A programme of tape recorded memoirs is maintained. Long time Jewish residents of Ontario, as well as prominent individuals, are interviewed.
Deposit of Material
Individuals and organizations are encouraged to contribute material relating to the Jews of Ontario. The Archives gratefully accepts gifts or loaned material to be copied and returned. The Archives is a designated institution under the Canadian Cultural Properties Export Act.
